Brief 7: Ceoliac typeface submission boards

Brief

Evaluation

This brief ran over from a 3 week to an ongoing piece of work, I personally massively underestimated the time it takes to digitally render a typeface. This project was to aid Natalie with her self set ceoliac booklet brief which is due to start in March 2014, initially we would work together to create 1 digital type specimen and I would put it into Fontographer. The first 10 days went according to our schedule and the final versions of each letter were beginning to be put into Illustrator. Once I was into illustrator the brief essentially became mine for the next week, however it became something that I realised would take me at least 2 weeks, given the other projects I was working on and 2 live briefs that popped up.

Once the typeface had two versions and enough glyphs to make a specimen book Natalie was brought back into the production line and helped with the layout, which I struggled with. My research into specimen booklets made me realise that they can be quite dry, this typeface is aimed to engage younger people and therefore we set about putting extras into the booklet and creating a pack.

At this stage, it is clear that another 10 days are needed to amend all of the print issues and create the final pack.

I am regretful in how much I underestimated the timescale needed but confident that with another week or so of work I can have a final piece to pleased with rather than just a book with some type on each page.
