Evaluation
Elmwood was developed over a 3 week period and became a focus for me in the lead up to the Christmas break, I felt that with the calibre of the studio and the prize of a placement at stake, I felt I should put all my efforts into this one.
It was difficult for me in terms of visuals, the start of level 06 has been purely hand rendering, craft and screen print so having to use digital mock ups was a tough experience. I think that my use of photoshop in this brief has refreshed my appetite for a high end aesthetic. I worked with Thomas Squire in crits to help push this as I feel he has a very successful way of showing an idea through presentation boards. His advice helped me understand how to set out presentation boards with backgrounds.
Approaching the first crit with Steph, I was confident that I could present my idea with words and visuals, however once this was over I realised that having some supportive information on each board would be necessary As the submission is digital it is essential that I communicate what each idea is and how it makes up an overall identity system for the car park.
Steph pointed out some ideas that could be developed and one that should be dropped, from this point onwards I feel that my decision making skills improved dramatically. Because the rendering was taking me so long, it was essential that I ran with ideas and made them work.
I feel that I have been successful in terms of creating an identity or a system of branding something boring, the concept is driven by immersing the guest in a colourful world and supported by gaming language.
